Nobel Prizes in Physics

Did you know that Nobel Prize-winning discoveries in physics underpin much of the technology in today’s world and our understanding of the Universe – from blue LED lights and lasers to gravitational waves, exoplanets and black holes? The class will take place shortly after Nobel Prize Week, so it will be a great opportunity to take a look together at the latest achievements in physics and see how today’s scientific news becomes tomorrow’s study material. During the lecture, groups of students will present the most notable discoveries in physics.
This course is studied by the students of the Light Engineering, High-Tech Physics and Business and Physics programmes. Recommended for 9-12 grade students.
About the Lecturer
Dr. Mažena Mackoit-Sinkevičienė
The researcher works at the Institute of Theoretical Physics and Astronomy, Faculty of Physics, Vilnius University. There, she conducts research into quantum non-linear optics, cold atomic gases, non-classical spin states, single-photon sources in solids, and theoretical studies of superlattices. She is also an active science communicator.
